Work is progressing well on our Creaseys Department Store project. Since we started in July, we’ve been carefully demolishing the former HSBC building 13 High Street, level by level. We’ve taken out nearly 500 tonnes of material, which has been sorted and separated, before being taken off site to be recycled or reused where possible.

Since 2000, the Ellen Jane Rihoy Trust has been providing financial support to improve the livelihoods and opportunities of some of the world's most impoverished and marginalised communities. Chiuzira Education and Development Centre in Malawi, southeastern Africa, is one such project that has benefitted from the Trust's support, which has triggered additional funding from other development partners, including the Guernsey Overseas Aid & Development Commission. This report highlights how valuable funds from the Guernsey Overseas Aid & Development Commission have helped overcome a severe shortage of school classrooms.

The refectory build at Elizabeth College was a logistically difficult build to carry out. The brief was to add a new floor on to an existing two storey building dating from the 1500s with the build having to take place whilst the 570 pupils and staff went about their daily school lives. This meant all construction vehicles and workers had to be on site before the school opened each day and not leave until the school day had ended.

Finding ourselves the only team to enter this years North Show Tug of War contest, we split the difference and became two competing teams, with 5vs5 evenly matched against each other.
It was a close call but in the end, Rihoy A came out on top, with Rihoy B a worthy second. Congratulations to everyone involved.

All structural work was completed in August 2016. The four classrooms were finally handed over to the School Administration, School Management Committee and the Parent Teacher Association on 6th September 2016. Standard 7 and 8 pupils occupied the Classrooms( the 2016-2017 school year started on 5th September). This report provides a final update on the activities that were done with the financial support received from the Ellen Jane Rihoy Trust.

Chiuzira Education and Development Centre (CEDC) received funding of £10,000.00 from the Ellen Rihoy Trust for the construction of classrooms at Chiuzira School at the beginning of March 2016. We started to procure materials and equipment in March upon receipt of the funds. However, due to some logistical problems, the construction could not start immediately. Construction started on 8th April 2016. So far, one block of two classrooms is at window level. It is anticipated that construction of this block will be complete before the end of the month.

The Ellen Jane Rihoy block is the girls' dormitory at Endana school in Laikipia, Kenya. This is the first girls' dormitory that the school has had. It has transformed educational opportunities for girls from pastoralist communities in Laikipia, providing for the first time an opportunity for over 100 girls to attend the secondary school. Construction was financed by the EJ Rihoy Trust and Guernsey Overseas Aid. The EJ Rihoy Trust also provides bursaries for bright but impoverished children to attend this secondary school in Laikipia. The school decided to name the block in honour of Ellen Jane Rihoy, a frequent visitor and long time supporter of the school.

The first phase of Le Grand Courtil development was completed at the end of 2014 and many residents moved into their apartments before Christmas time.
The development, undertaken by Rihoy & Son in partnership with Guernsey Housing Association, HSSD and the Housing Department, provides independent living accommodation for those across the community who need extra care.

Guernsey construction firm Rihoy & Son has donated another container to the Tumaini Fund, a charity that seeks to alleviate the terrible suffering of AIDS widows and orphans in Kagera, the most north-westerly province of Tanzania. The new vehicle, an Isuzu Forward N75.150 Euro 6 Spec, was supplied by Rabeys and joins a fleet comprising a Fiat Ducato used by the joinery workshop, a Vauxhall Combo, a Nissan Cabstar tipper and a Ford Connect van.

Rihoy & Son went back to school this summer to ensure Vale Primary was ready for the new term. The work started in April and was finished at the end of August ready for the start of the school year.
Vale Primary School has merged with St. Sampson’s Infant School and the increase in pupil numbers meant the school needed to expand and refurbish some areas. The infant school will now have a three-form entry and teachers and staff from St. Sampson’s have also moved over to Vale.

The luxury One St Julian’s Avenue development in St Peter Port was officially opened on Friday 20 June. Guests commended the developers on the design, quality and spaciousness of the development as they celebrated the completion of the 29 local market apartments and three open market penthouses. Rue Clouet has been shortlisted in the Guernsey Design Awards 2014. The Guernsey Housing Association project was designed by architects Create and built by JW Rihoy & Son.
