We are very pleased to announce that the EJ Rihoy Charitable Trust has formed a new partnership with the David Mahungu Leadership Foundation (DMLF), a Kenyan non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering youth from marginalised communities. As part of this partnership, the Trust will provide funding to support the DMLF’s operations for its first two years. During this period, the Trust will also work closely with DMLF to identify additional partners who can contribute to the foundation's growth and the expansion of its impactful programmes.

About the David Mahungu Leadership Foundation (DMLF)

Launched in 2024, the DMLF’s mission is to offer young people from economically and socially marginalised backgrounds the tools and opportunities they need to emerge as leaders who can drive their communities toward a more just and resilient society.

The DMLF's approach includes providing formal tertiary education, personalised mentorship, partnership development, and comprehensive leadership training. Through these initiatives, participating youth are empowered to make meaningful contributions to their local, national, and international communities, focusing on areas such as innovation, poverty reduction, and economic expansion.

The Legacy of David Mahungu

Before his untimely passing, David Mahungu, together with his mother, Patricia Wangui, supported and mentored university students from rural communities, particularly in Laikipia, and played a crucial role in guiding them as they transitioned from rural life to university, helping them adjust and thrive in a new environment.

In honour of David’s dedication and vision, Patricia, along with close friends and family, established the David Mahungu Leadership Foundation.

Initially, the foundation will work with young people from Laikipia County, with plans to expand its reach across Kenya in the coming years.
