We are delighted to have seen the completion of eight preschools in Laikipia, Kenya. Having provided the initial investment, our funds were bolstered by support from the States of Guernsey Overseas Aid & Development Commission (GOADC) and the Laikipia County Government.
The initiative will provide a safe environment in which young children from the region can learn, play and grow.
By Guernsey standards the schools are very simple structures, but compared to the woven shelters previously used, they will provide a much better and safer place for the children and, with the added benefit of a rain capturing roof and tanks, can also help provide fresh clean water to the school and beyond.
Dr Liz Rihoy, Trust Chairperson and Dan Taylor, Trustee, were pleased to have been representing the EJ Rihoy Charitable Trust during the official opening by his Excellency Joshua Irungu, EGH the Governor of Laikipia County, along with Deputy Chris Blin, Judy Moore and David Way from GOADC.
