At Rihoy & Son, we believe that building a stronger community means investing in the opportunities available to our young people. That’s why we’re proud to continue our support of Guernsey Hockey’s Outreach Programme – an initiative that brings hockey coaching into local schools and inspires children to get active, develop skills, and try something new.
Over the 2024-25 school year, the Outreach team delivered their ‘Hotshots’ programme to 12 state primary schools, introducing over 1,000 Year 5 and 6 pupils to the sport through fun and engaging six-week sessions.
The season ended in style with two major events at Footes Lane:
- The Year 5 Festival (8th May) welcomed 10 teams from 8 schools in a non-competitive afternoon celebrating participation and enjoyment. Many players stepped onto astroturf for the first time, and the enthusiasm was palpable.
- The Year 6 Tournament (15th May) turned up the competition with a 6-a-side round-robin event featuring 9 schools, 71 goals, and some incredible action on the pitch. Castel Primary emerged as worthy champions, unbeaten and without conceding a single goal.
We were delighted that our Managing Director, Dan Taylor, was invited to attend the tournament and present awards:
It was fantastic to be part of the Year 6 Tournament and to see the energy, enthusiasm and sportsmanship on display from all the schools involved. Supporting Guernsey Hockey’s Outreach Programme means a lot to us and it’s brilliant to see so many young people getting active, building confidence, and discovering a love for sport.
Congratulations to all players, coaches, and schools who took part. And thank you to Guernsey Hockey for delivering such a valuable and energising programme. We look forward to seeing even more young players get involved next year.
