Supporting the next generation of hockey players

Rihoy & Son is proud to continue supporting Guernsey Hockey’s Talent Academy and Hotshots Outreach Programme, helping hundreds of young players access elite coaching, competitive opportunities and pathways into the sport.

Talent Academy highlights

The Talent Academy has just completed its second successful season. Over 60 local male and female players aged 12-18 benefitted from 12 performance sessions led by two experienced high-performance coaches.

A major milestone this season was the selection of six Guernsey players to England Hockey’s South Coast Talent Academy (SCTA), based at Havant Hockey Club – a huge achievement that reflects both their commitment and the quality of local coaching.

To further strengthen this pathway, two SCTA coaches visited Guernsey in August to run assessments for potential future triallists, providing valuable exposure and experience for older Talent Academy players.

Hotshots Outreach Programme

Alongside the Talent Academy, the Hotshots Outreach Programme introduced hockey to 1,021 Year 5 and 6 pupils across 12 primary schools. Additional sessions included a lunchtime club at Le Rondin and a younger years club at Hautes Capelles.

The season concluded with a festival and tournament in May, well attended by schools across the island – including Sark School, who accessed the programme for the first time.

Looking ahead, the 2025/26 school year will see the programme expanded to 13 schools, with extended delivery at Le Rondin and provision for younger years. The Year 5 Festival and Year 6 Tournament are already planned for late April and early May.

Building futures through sport

These initiatives are about more than hockey. They provide young people with opportunities to develop skills, confidence and values that last a lifetime.

At Rihoy & Son, we are proud to support Guernsey’s next generation of athletes and to help create opportunities for young people both on and off the pitch.
